The Journey to Become Better Teachers

Hello students,

I want to let you know that it was a pleasure to spend this semester with you all.

As we discussed with our last topic, Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire, I tried, to the best of my ability, to pose problems with you all and then together work with you to solve them (i.e. what did Solzhenitsyn mean in his Nobel lecture when he said, "One word of truth shall outweigh the whole world?") I hope that together we made progress in solving some of these problems. I know that I take a large amount of satisfaction in my belief that we have made progress because I have learned much from you this semester. I hope that you share in this belief!

The goal for any teacher should be to continually improve as a teacher. Although absolute perfection (utopia) may be unattainable in this life, we can make a concerted and continuous effort to be more perfect. We can identify our weaknesses or shortcomings and focus our attention on trying to improve upon them. Indifference and complacency are the enemies of being a good teacher. We all have to try do better, myself included. On that note, if you have any critical feedback on how our course proceeded the last semester, please feel free to share it here or via e-mail at dansocha@gmail.com.

Once again students, thank you for all of your hard work and dedication that you showed to our Methods of Teaching English and Literature course this semester. I will keep this website available as a means of staying in contact with you. I will continue to post relevant articles and pieces of literature that I think may be useful to you, your classes, and your students.

Have a healthy and joyous break. Thank you for joining me on this intellectual journey and let us continue on its righteous path!

Sincerely yours,
Prof. Dan

    1. Thank you Josephine,
It was a pleasure to have you as a student this semester. Let us continue to stay in contact. Please let me know how your experiences with Bridge are going, and if there is any news about your application with the government position.
Let me know if there is anything that I can do to be of assistance.

      Yours,
      Prof Dan.
